Introduction to Final Cut Pro 6 (3 days)

Description: This course will focus on the production processes of Apple Final Cut Pro 6, its practical and commercial application within the TV and Film industry and software training. The course teaches students how to use FCP in an efficient and effective way for basic input, editing and export of video material. It also promotes familiarity with digital audio/video technology, terminology and equipment as used in the media production industry.
Throughout the three day course, students will produce an ongoing project, where they can progressively assimilate and apply each new topic and technique given by the tutors. There will be continual group and individual exercises. There will be no formal assessment due to the intensive nature of the course.
Location: The course takes place in our fully equipped Mac suite in Soho. Each student learns on a Mac G5. The tutor will demonstrate the principals and functions of Final Cut Pro using our 50” plasma screen.
Learning Objectives:
How to set up a project.
How to get your digital media - video, audio and graphics into FCP.
How to set up the FCP workspace for efficient editing
How to assemble a sequence quickly using basic tools and methods.
Fine tuning your edits with extra tools and techniques.
Working with audio, synching it and linking it to video.
Editing and mixing audio
Adding cross fades audio and other types of transition
How to add basic titles and captions to a film.
Creating a viewing copy on DVD
Exporting Movies as Quick Time Files
Necessary Experience:
Students must be comfortable using Apple Computers. If you feel that you need a refresher in this area please sign up to our 1 day Introduction to Mac Course prior to taking the course. A general understanding of the TV Production process and in particular post production is an advantage. Tutor: SCOTT RADNOR
Scott Radnor is an off and online digital editor and motion graphic designer. He has been using Final Cut Pro for the past four years. In recent years he has set-up a tapeless FCP based TV studio for MTV, in which he shot and edited award winning music television programmes for MTV2, that were broadcast across Europe. His experimental graphical film work has featured on BBC TV. He has edited documentary films concerned with British artists and art history, which have been broadcast on Channel4, Channel5, Sky and exhibited at the Tate Modern. He is currently developing his own documentary and experimental film projects and working as a freelance FCP editor for the BBC. Scott has taught documentary filmmaking to young people and adults, and trained experienced editors and producers in the use of FCP.
01zero-one provides industry led skills development and training for London audio visual and digital media industries. It runs training in Shake, Avid, Final Cut Pro. It also works alongside post production companies to deliver training on their behalf.
